Catholic Schools week is such a big event at ASA, that one of God’s furry nocturnal creatures decided to join us for a couple of minutes before the 8
th grade vs. staff game at St. Isidore. While people were coming in and getting their raffle tickets, a bat flew around the ceiling delighting some and eliciting screams from others. Once the games began, our furry winged friend had moved on to let the festivities commence.
The 8
th graders were determined to be the first class to beat the staff. Their pink class shirts glowed on the floor as they ran from end to end, making baskets and fumbling. The 8
th grade started slowly, but eventually held their own against the staff. The score was only 4 points apart. It was a great game and everyone had a wonderful time!!!
The next day, three sixth graders made it their mission to play the National Anthem and be the pep band for the volleyball and basketball games, again between 8
th grade and staff. 8
th graders had face paint and headbands to display their solidarity. 7
th graders manned the scoreboard. Underclassmen made their support signs and proudly displayed them as points were scored and whenever they yelled a cheer. Staff on the bench secretly cheered when the students scored, as they all wanted to see the kids successful. In the end on Friday, the Staff won 2 out of 3 volleyball games and remained undefeated in basketball. These games are one of the highlights of the 8
th grade year AND are a great community event that brings everyone closer together.
