Welcome to Mrs. Anderson's preschool class! ASA is a wonderful community and we are glad you have chosen to be part of it!
Alleluia! Happy Easter!
April 13, 2020
I pray you had a wonderful Easter Sunday! Mine was different than any other Easter (as I am sure yours was) but my small immediate family celebrated Easter and togetherness on a smaller scale.
It is hard to believe Spring Break has come and gone. It was a good time to recharge and to figure out the most helpful way to keep your preschool engaged and in tune to learning goals.
Even though we are not together physically. It has been nice keeping a connection with your children
through videos, emails and Google Meet.
AT HOME LEARNING SCHEDULE
The Preschool 3 teachers had a virtual meeting to collaborate the best schedule for At Home Learning.
After 3 weeks of videos, Google Meets, suggested links and suggested learning practices along with the answers to our survey -we came up with a schedule that hopefully helps offer a consistent schedule
that you and your preschooler can look to every week day.
Every Monday | Email with overview of the weeks lessons. 2-3 video lessons on a letters, religion lesson, numbers etc Links suggestions and craft ideas. |
Every Tuesday | Google Meet at 3pm-3:30. Preschoolers can see and share with their classmates and teachers. We will suggest a Show and Share they can bring to the Google Meet. |
Every Wednesday |
Email with 2-3 new video lessons. Focusing on letters, number, prayers, songs stc. Suggested links and fine motor sheets you can copy for practice. |
Every Thursday |
Office Hours in Google Meet from 2pm-2:30pm. Parents (with or without preschoolers) can talk virtually with questions or check in conversations. |
Every Friday | 2-3 Video lessons on Social/ Emotional learning, science experiments, zoophonics friends Link suggestions on favorite sing along songs or virtual field trip. |
It has been great to hear about all the new ways you and your child are navigating this time. I would love to see pictures or projects of different activities your childen are doing.
APRIL AT HOME LEARNING GOALS
We made the best of At Home Learning Time and started with a Dinosaur Unit. It was great fun for me to learn new things about dinosaurs.
This week we focused on Holy Week-Jesus' journey to the Cross and his Resurrection.

Anderson Preschool Threes
Preschoolers are always learning through play. I will reach out to you with optional learning through email but I know there is so much learning going on through imaginary play and creativity. So just let them play! Build a fort! Get out the playdoh! Build a tower with pillows. Draw some pictures and staple them together and call it a book.
READ TO THEM but also HAVE THEM READ THE PICTURES to you.
ZOOPHONICS LETTERS-we left off at W Willy Weasel. I am hoping to pick up XYZ when we come back. For now any letter hunts around the house will be fun. The website abcmouse.com has fun letter games.
NUMBERS-Keep counting anything in your house-windows, doors, spoons, forks, socks
SCIENCE-Have you had a chance to explore the virtual zoo tours? These preschoolers know more about animals because of all the great learning shows.
FAITH-These are hard times to keep little and big ones entertained. Each day as I hear the news, my mom reminds me-aren't we lucky we have our faith?
Praying for you and yours!
PRESCHOOL AT HOME LEARNING
(OPTIONAL)
March 16th, 2020
Dear Parents,
This past week has been truly unbelievable for everyone. The preschool staff met to brainstorm ways to help make a somewhat similar schedule to their regular preschool day at home. Your preschooler might enjoy having a scheduled recess time, snack time, free choice time, project time etc.
As you know, tomorrow is St. Patricks Day. I have been hunting for Leprechauns for 32 years with my students. Still hoping to find one. I will truly miss this activity but a good backyard activity for tomorrow. Hide any small glittery thing in your yard and they are sure the Leprechaun was around. (look for other St Patricks day suggestions coming tomorrow.)
LENT-The lessons of Jesus journey to cross and the Miracle of The Resurrection will be missed as well.
If you have a chance to pick up gear look for a Station Book they can color and their Special Lenten Heart.
LENT-Change My Heart O GOd
During Lent we are trying extra hard to be like Jesus in our words and actions.
We started putting colorful squares on a black heart to remind us how kind words and actions can change our hearts. A great daily activity at home is before they put their daily colorful square on talk about what kind deed they did or could do. Any how their heart is changing with each kind deed!
This is just the beginning of my online communication. I plan to offer more ideas maybe even some picture sharing and talk time with each other.
Food for thought: Throughout last week as I was praying my daughter made it home from Spain, I keep hearing all the overwheming and scary new reports. It was too much! So In those stressful times I am reminded of Mr. Rogers" Look for the Helpers" in unexplainable times. So I started prayfully thanking all those in the medical field, the people working hard making test kits and vaccines, neighborhoods forming committees to help working parents, people donating food and deliver to the children who will go without. It certainly great to see everyone working to help each other.
I will be have "office hours" between 10am-1am every weekday. Please feel free to email questions, concerns or share cute stories or videos of your preschooler! I am going to miss them.

FEBRUARY PRESCHOOL ADVENTURES
In February we started "team" project time. Have you noticed a colored letter written on your child's hand in February? The preschoolers are assigned a color team and they travel to each center together with their color team. This new rotation format helps them with time on task, getting to know all our classmates better, and of course teamwork. The preschoolers are excited to be assigned to a new team each day with different friends. When they finish their task or project they can join their teammates at an assigned play area. It is exciting to see different friendships forming.
CUTTING PRACTICE-we are practicing our scissor cutting and name writing more at center time. We model for the preschoolers proper scissor grasp and trying to cut on the lines. This is the early stages of cutting and not an expectation in preschool threes.
NAME WRITING And LETTERS in our NAME-As we are close to the end of the alphabet, the preschoolers have been excited about all the letters they can recognize. We are tracing the letters in the
their name and showing off all they know.
FEBRUARY is DENTAL HEALTH month-We have been talking, singing and crafting about taking care of our teeth. Dr. O'Brien ( a dentist and Richie's dad) came to our classroom on Friday and talked to us about the importance of brushing our teeth day and night.
The LENTEN Season will begin on Wednesday. The preschoolers will be learning about Jesus' journey to the cross and his Resurrection on Easter Sunday. We will take this time to remember to work harder on being kind and giving just as Jesus did for us!
PASTRIES with PALS-On Tuesday (the day before Lent) there will be donuts and juice for all the ASA students from 7:30-8:00. You are invited to spend a few minutes with your student in the family center
enjoying donuts and juice.
THANK YOU to the anonymous parent who dropped off the googly eyes on my desk last week!

classmates. There are 19 preschool friends. PLEASE do not address cards to particular classmates but
PLEASE do sign your child name. (They can sign their own name but this is not required or expected.)
VALENTINE MAILBOXES-FAMILY HOMEWORK-Working with your preschool cover an empty kleenex box with wrapping paper or any colored paper. Cut out the hole for the mail slot for Valentine cards to
go in. Decorate with stickers, markers, etc. LABEL with their name. (This is always a favorite project to bring their cards home in) PLEASE hand in by Wednesday February 12th so we can deliver all cards early.
HAVE A GREAT WEEK!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
It was such a warm and joyous Christmas season and the new year has arrived!
The preschoolers seemed older as they came back from the Christmas break. We are off to a great start. We have jumped right into our next zoophonics letter O-Olive Octopus.
We are enjoying the winter season and singing and crafting snowmen, snowflakes etc.
Name Writing- Throughout the year we talk about the letters in our names and the letters their name starts with. It is not an expectation to know all their letters or be able to write their name. (That is expected mastery in Preschool 4s) However, we try and start the process by tracing their names.
This is one of the new centers in the new year. We practice with all capital letters (or upper case letters)
because they are easier to write.
Miracles and Parables- The preschoolers listen to a story from the Children's Bible every day. Now that we have finished the Christmas stories we are beginning the stories of Jesus as an adult. Before each story, we predict of it is a story of a Miracle, Parable and Spreading the Good News. It is cute that they ask for the Title of the Story so they can guess.

USING OUR FIVE SENSES
To
EXPLORE GOD'S CREATION!
October 28th, 2019
We continue exploring how we use our eyes and ears to help us learn. We close our eyes and try to walk around our room. The preschoolers quickly discover how to use their hands to feel where they are going. We then cover our ears and discovered how we can use our hands to express ourselves.
This week we will explore touch.
LETTERS A-H-We have covered 8 of our zoophonics friends and have been making a page for our letter book each week. We also make a letter puppet and letter bracelets. The student are assigned a letter to sit on each week. It amazes me how quickly the preschoolers can figure out their new letter each week.
SONGS and Rhymes-I am sure you are hearing all sorts of preschool rhymes and poems repeated and song. All these fun learning activities are building great pre-reading skills.
CALENDAR TIME-In our classroom we do a linear calendar that hangs above our trees. During calendar we work on our counting, patterning, days of the week and months and Birthdays.

SEPTEMBER-HERE WE COME!
September 2, 2019
We will beginning our first full month of preschooler! So much fun activities to explore
and discover. Our first 6 days were full of getting to know each other and learning the preschool routine. The students have had whole group time during "carpet time",
small group time at the table tops and play time during "free choice"
BE FAIR! BE SAFE! BE KIND!
Our first focus of the classroom rules was how we can be safe. We talk about it and act it out with puppets. Along with the rules we talk about what happens if we don't listen to the rules. We call this 1-2-3 Magic. The student get 3 chances to turn around a repeated bad behavior. An example of what that looks like is this: A child is grabbing a toy away from a friend the teacher says, "we have to share the toys ask your friend if you can have the toy when they are done" That is a 1. If the behavior continues teacher say that is 2. It still continues, that is 3. You need to take a break in the Take 5 chair. Student is directed to Take 5 chair where he/she will sit for 3-5 minutes. This strategy work wonderfully in preschool and most preschoolers are ready to make better choices after a break.
Bathroom Update-Most 3 year olds are recently potty trained so an occassional accident with new bathrooms and new environment is not uncommon. We take many bathroom breaks throughout our day. Every hour as a group and any time they ask to go.
We emphasize trying to go potty every time but especially before we go outside or to the lunchroom. Please make sure you have a set of backup clothes in the backpack in a ziploc bag every day.
BIG MOTOR TIME-The preschoolers love running and playing developing their big motor skills. Everyday we get a chance to go to the outside playground, the inside playground or the gym.
HAVE A GREAT WEEK!
WELCOME TO the 2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR!
A big part of your child's preschool experience is for them to feel comfortable
and helping them to grow in their Love of Learning. A positive start to their day is important. We start our day at Carpet Time. You may have heard your child repeating our greeting. We sing our greeting for each child and remind them "we're so glad to see you in our room!" Along with welcoming all our friends we are also working on taking turns. Some days we even add our rhythm sticks to practice rhythm and voice levels.
I AM SPECIAL!
Our focus for the first few weeks of preschool is God made us all special
and he loves us very much! We are getting to know each other and beginning to figure out the preschool routine. The preschoolers have done so much already- Sitting on the rug listening to stories, singing songs, walking in line, carrying our own lunch tray, eating in the lunch room with the big preschoolers, playing on the "big" playground, playing in the inside playground, sharing and taking turns and so many new routine procedures and they are doing great!
Aug./Sept. Prayer
A-B-C-D-E-F-G
Thank you God for feeding me!
Rest Time has been going wonderfully! Most preschoolers are sleeping about 90 minutes. All rest item are kept in their rest bins when we aren't resting. Please feel free to take the items home to be washed weekly or biweekly. The tricky part is remembering to bring them back.
Lunch Time- The children have been great about sitting at our lunch table and
using their mannners. Some preschoolers are big eater and gobble up a lot of their food. Others are nibblers! Both are normal preschool behavior. We put a fruit, veggie, and milk along with the main entree on their tray. We encourage
them to try everything on their tray. As they grow and get comfortable they
may eat more and more!
Helpful Hints-we had a few accidents today. Please make sure you have a change of clothes in their backpack-just in case.
FAMILY PICTURE-Please send in a family picture as we get to know each other.
HAVE A GREAT WEEK!
